Laura
teacher guide |

Laura is our teacher guide. She loves
birds, and she always took pictures of birds! In class, she taught us
about American culture. She was always very funny and made us
laugh!

We arrived in Seattle and met Laura!! She was very funny and
cheerful, so I felt relaxed. After that, we went to many places.
When we went to a
hamburger's shop, We
drank root beer for the first time. It tasted like a poultice! I was really surprised, but the hamburger
was delicious!!
After we arrived at the
study center, I met Mike, Lin and Logan!! I was really
happy to see them. When Morgan came back home,
she gave me a hug ! I was very
happy
about it too. I heard the family praying at dinner time and
I felt that I was in America! Before I went to bed, I talked with Lin
about our own families. I was glad.

I was a little sleepy because I had slept only
for 4 hours. We learned about some American culture from Laura for
the first time. After that, we went to a nearby shopping
mall. I bought something in a store called "Bath
and Body Works."
At night, we had our "Welcome Party.
" We
talked with each host family
and played a game. I was glad because I talked with many people!! After
I came back home, I talked with Mike and Lin about music. I
learned about many American musicians and thought that I wolud listen to many
American music in Japan.

I ate a strawberry bagle in the morning.
It was very delicious and I thought that I wanted to get some
strawberry cream in Japan! After we took Laura's class, we visited a local fire stationwith Lin, Morgan and Logan. We asked firefighters many questions
about the fire stations in America. After that, we wore a
fire-fighting suit, which was pretty heavy! We experienced shooting water
against a target too. I was so excited
because I experienced all the things for the first time!
All the morning, we went shopping. We went to
"Krispy Kreme Doughnuts"
and "Tacoma Mall."
I bought a pair of shoes in the
mall. It was very cheap and I was very happy! In the
afternoon, we learned how to make a snowman with a
sock
from Mrs. Jane and made one. I
was glad because I was able to make a cute snowman.
We went to the police station
and the city hall with Kara, one of our past host
sister in the afternoon.
We asked police officers some questions and even got into a police cell. We met a female
officer and she was very cool! I felt some
special atmosphere at the station. After that, we went to the
city hall and we talked with the mayor. He was very young and I
was very surprised.
After the class, I went to the IHOP
(International House of Pancakes) in South Center Mall with
Lin, Morgan and Logan
. Morgan and Logan decorated their pancake and they were very
cute!

We went to downtown
Seattle with Kara ! First, we went to
the University of Washington . It was a
lot bigger than our college. I found many new things in there. After
that, we went to Space Needle, West Lake Center, Pike Place
Market, the first STARBUCKS store and Safeco Field
. When we had lunch in the West Lake Center, I ordered a
tom yam kung. However, I didn't like the coriander in the soup, so I couldn't really
enjoy the meal.
At night, I went
to a Mexican restaurant with Mike, Lin, Morgan
and Logan
. I ate
Mexican food for the first time and it was very delicious.
We went to Green
River Community College and looked around the
campus.
The college was full of nature. We also
met our college friends who were studying there and I was very glad to see
them.
In the evening, I made pumpkin
pies
with Lin, Morgan and Logan to bring to the study center the next
day. I was really surprised because the blender was
very big! I had
never seen anything like that!

We
experienced American holiday activities! We wore funny Halloween
costumes and colored Easter Eggs. We ate a big turky and the pumpkin pie that
I had made with the Fant family the previous day. We had a great
time.
After coming back home,
I played with toy cars with Logan. He used the cars that I had given to him, so
I was glad. After dinner, I had an amazing
experience! When I ate a piece of pumpkin pie again, I poured some whipped cream into my mouth for the first
time!

We visited
Mark Twain Elementary School. We told children how to count from one to ten in Japanese five times that day. We also taught them how to
write their names in katakana . After
that, we ate lunch with the children and played with them on
the school ground. I gave some children a
piggyback ride many times, so
I got really
tired. However, the children were pretty
cute, so I had a good time!
In the evening, I went to a
local library with Lin, Morgan and Logan. I borrowed a Japanese
picture story book. After we came back home, I tried
to
read the book in English for Morgan and
Logan
.

We made memory journals for our host family
and went shopping in Laura's class.
After school, I looked around the
gym that Morgan and Logan attended. After that, we went to
the
Rainforest Cafe in South Center Mall. Before I ate dinner,
I tried to find some animals in the restaurant with Morgan and
Logan. The animals looked so real. I enjoyed having a rich
dinner and it was delicious.
After the children slept, Lin showed me many $1 coins
! I was
really surprised to see them and many famous person's faces were shown on
them.
We visited Leavenworth the whole
day. We went there by bus, but we were very cold on the bus
because the heating system didn't work
!! After
we arrived at Leavenworth, we enjoyed shopping. There were many wonderful
shops there. We took some funny pictures there. I ate German food for
the first time!! It was very delicious.
In the
morning, I took Morgan and Logan to their elementary school with Lin.
In the afternoon, we went bowling. Then, we celebrated Mizuki's birthday. I was glad
because she said that she was really impressed. I am not
good at bowling, but I enjoyed bowling because Laura taught me how to bowl
amusingly. Thank you, Laura!
In the evening, I went
to an ice cream shop called "Subzero" with
the Fant family. I ate a
strawberry ice cream! I love ice cream!! If I can go there again, I
would like to try a large one! After we came home, Lin made a cake for Logan's birthday and I helped her with it. It
was so difficult to spread cream on the cake, but I enjoyed
making it!
In the morning, we practiced our presentation and later
went shopping. In the evening, we took part in our Sayonara
Party. We were
very nervous,
but we enjoyed it. When I was taking some pictures with the Fant
family, I was really sad because I felt that I would go back to Japan
soon.
After we came back home, I played a game called
"Headbands
" with Morgan and Logan. The game was very
fun! Moreover, Mike and Lin gave me a
hand-made bracelet and a smart can opener
! I was pretty happy!!
