Fun
Weekdays
Feb. 17th (Mon.)
We went to a local fire
department in
the afternoon. We asked firefighters some questions. I
couldn't really catch what they were saying, so I was a little
disappointed with myself. We later wore a firefighter suit,
which was so heavy!
I thought that
firefighters were great. Then, we shot some water with a hose against
a target. I experienced it for the first time, so I got
really excited.
Feb. 18th (Tue.)
We
went shopping to Tacoma Mall in the morning. The
mall was very big. There were many clothing stores,
shoe stores, and so on .
I bought NIKE shoes.
Gwen and Shiho helped me choose the shoes. The shoes are now my
favorite!
In the afternoon, we made a handmade
snowman. Haruka's host mother Jane taught us how to make
a snowman. She is
very good at
handcraft . Jane and
Haruka
later made me a handmade doll, a bracelet and a pair of pierced earrings for my
birthday. Thank you!

We went
sightseeing to the places such
as the University of Washington, Pike Place
Market and a Japanese grocery store called Uwajimaya.
The University of Washington was
completely different from a regular Japanese university. The
campus was so big and looked magnificent. I felt the campus had a long history,
bacause many school buildings looked like castles.
I
bought some
ingredients of Nikujaga for my host family. I
wanted to buy some potatoes, but there were so many kinds of potatoes in
Uwajimaya. I couldn't decide which to choose. That day, Laura chose some good potatoes for Nikujaga for me.
I
was surprised to see a Japanese bookstore
Kinokuniya in Uwajimaya .
Feb. 21
(Fri.)
We went to Green River Community College
and a senior home in the afternoon. We met our good old friends Yuuki and Tamami for the first time after about 6 months at the college.
Mr. Nonaka allowed us to talk with each other in Japanese for 3
minutes
. It was good time for refreshment.
The senior center was luxurious and clean like a
hotel. I thought that I wanted to live in
the place like that when I grew old.
Feb.
24 (Mon.)
Laura taught us many thing
about American holidays. Then, we dressed up for Halloween.
Hannah lent me a robe of Harry Potter. We ate Thanksgiving food that Haruka's host mother and father made for us for
lunch. It was delicious. My favorite food was mashed
potato. I had my plate refilled three
times .
We enjoyed experiencing
American holiday activities for the first time.
Feb.
25 (Tue)
We went to a local elementary
school.
We gave the children our presentation about how to count in Japanese
and how to write their names in Katakana. The children asked
us many questions about Japan with interest . They were so
cheerful. I enjoyed jumping rope with them at the lunch
break.

We went sightseeing to Leavenworth.
I had wrongly guessed that we were going
to climb Cascade mountains on foot. There were many fairy-tale-like buildings in Leavenworth, and I especially
liked the Christmas ornament shop
. I bought a humming bird ornament for Gwen
and Ben. They were glad with my present, so I was happy.
