Laura is our teacher guide. Laura is very cheerful and funny! We learned a lot of things from her. We enjoyed her classes. |
Feb. 12 (Mon)
In the morning, we took Laura's class for the first time. I was very nervous, but Laura was very kind. Laura taught us about staying safe in America and about Seattle. In the afternoon, we went to a shopping mall nearby. We also looked around some stores. We went to a chocolate store and a supermarket. American chocolate is very big and cute.
In the evening, we had the welcome party with our host families. I enjoyed talking and eating delicious meals with them.

Feb. 13 (Tue)
In the morning, we went to Tacoma Mall for shopping. First, we went to Krispy&Kream Doughnuts, and we shared a variety of doughnuts. They were much sweeter than Japannese doughnuts. Later, we enjoyed shopping. I bought a chocolate because the next day was Valentine's Day. At the lunch time, I shared rice, chicken and potatoes with my friends.
In the evening, Ralph's parents Peg and Dick came to our house. We ate taco for dinner, and it was so delicious. After dinner, we played chess. It was difficult for me to understand the rules, but everyone taught me how to play it.

Feb. 14(Wed)
I gave chocolate to my host family. I was very happy because they enjoyed it.
In the morning, we went to the fire department and asked firefighters some questions. They were very kind. We put on a fire fighting jacket and sprayed water too. It was a great experience.
In the afternoon, Kurumi and I didn't go to class because we went to Seattle with our host families instead. We enjoyed looking around stores. Later, we went to an Italian restaurant and the meal was so delicious. We had a great time.

Feb. 15(Thur)
I got up early. We went to Leavenworth. It took about three hours to get there by car. There were many kinds of stores in the German style village. We enjoyed shopping and saw the very beautiful view. I bought many souvenirs for myself and my host family. We shared German food for lunch. I had a great day, but I became carsick. When I came back home, I went to bed right away. Remi made me some hot drink. I was so sorry that I troubled my family.

Feb. 16(Fri)
In the morning, we visited the police department, the courthouse and the City Hall. We asked some questions and looked around the place. I was surprised because Ann, who showed us around the police department, was only 18 years old.
In the afternoon, we talked about traditional annual events in Japan. We talked about the Doll's Festival, the festival for children of three, five, and seven years of age and New Year’s Day .
In the evening, I made chirashizushi (scatterd sushi) and tonjiru(pork miso soup) for my host family. I was very happy because everyone said to me, "It is delicious."
After that, Remi, her friend and I played video games together. It was difficult to understand how to play, but Remi thaught me how to play so kindly. I was very happy and had fun.

Feb. 19(Mon)
We learned about American holidays with Rina's host family Morgan and Logan. We enjoyed American holidays, such as Halloween, Easter, and Thanksgiving. We wore Halloween costumes and Remi lent me a cute red dress. We also ate a lot of dishes for Thanksgiving such as turkey, mashed potato, ham, pumpkin pie and cherry pie for lunch. Those dishes were very delicious. Later, Rina's host mother Lin came and taught us how to make pretty message cards. We enjoyed making them.
In the evening, I watched a Harry Potter movie with my host family.

Feb. 20 (Tue)
In the morning, we went to Green River College. We went to its library and cafeteria. Later, we went to a senior center. The building looked like a hotel. We sang Japanese children's songs "Furusato" and "Amefuri." We enjoyed talking with the senior people.
In the evening, I made muffin with Genie. It was very delicious. Later, I went to try bouldering with Genie and Alissa. It was hard, but I enjoyed it. I was surprised because Genie was good at climbing the wall so fast.

Feb. 21 (Wed)
We visited Twin Lakes Elementary School. We taught children how to count from one to ten in Japanese and how to write their names in katakana too . We ate lunch with the children and enjoyed talking with them. After lunch, we played with the children on the school ground. We enjoyed all day, but I got very tired. Later, we went to Rina's host family's house, ate cookies and had green tea.

Feb. 22(Thur)
We had no school because we had a lot of snow. I went to the park with Genie, Alissa, Samantha and Kurumi. Alissa lent me her ski-wear. We enjoyed sledding in the park and made a snowman. Later, we went to Costco and we ate lunch there. I was very happy because Alissa bought us some souvenirs.

Feb. 23(Fri)
In the morning, we started to make a memory journal and a photo frame for our host families. After that, we went bowling and ate lunch. I'm not good at bowling, but Laura taught us how to bowl. I was surprised because Laura was very good at bowling. We spent a really fun time.

Feb. 26(Mon)
We went to Seattle for sightseeing . First, we visited University of Washington. I was surprised because the campus was very huge. Next, we went to Theo's chocolate factory, and I bought many chocolates there. Next, we went to Pike Place Market, Gum Wall, the first Starbucks Coffee and Safeco Field. I bought many souvenirs for my family and friends. I had a great time.

Feb. 27(Tue)
We made a memory journal and a photo frame for our host families all day. Mami and Yukina brought cookies they had made at Laura's house. They were very delicous.

Feb. 28(Wed)
In the morning, we finished our journals. Later, we went to shopping for the last time and I bought a lot of souvenirs. We ate many kinds of pizza for late lunch. I especially liked Hawaiian pizza. We then changed into yukata. Then we prepared and practiced our presentation for the Sayonara Party.
At the Sayonara Party, we succeeded in our presentation. I was very nervous at the presentation, but I enjoyed talking with my host family later. I felt very sad because I would be going back to Japan the next day.
