The Weekends

Feb. 11 (Sun)

I went to church for the first time. I thought we were supposed to pray silently, but everyone was singing songs and listening to a minister's words. It was a lot more active than I had expected. After that, many people talked to me, so I was really happy.

We went shopping after the church. While Karen was buying something, George and I tasted some food samples around the shop. They were very delicious, and we enjoyed it. We went home and I met Karen's grandchildren, Emily and Kyle, and their mother, Kim for the first time. I was surprised Emily looked more matured for her age than I had expected.

Feb. 17 (Sat)

We ate Scotch egg cooked by George for breakfast. It was hot and delicious. We went to another church after breakfast. Karen and George go to one church on Saturdays and another on Sundays. Karen took part in nursing volunteer at the church, so I also helped her and I played with children. I really enjoyed it.

After that, I talked to a man who spoke a little Japanese. He was very cool and kind to me, so I wanted to talk to him more. And then, Karen said to me, “We will go to a meeting in the evening, so do you want to go to his house while we will be attending to the meeting?” so I gladly decided to go to his house.

I went to the man's house in the evening, and I was very surprised that there were already about 15 young people in his house. I was told later that it was a study meeting for Christianity, and it was held every Saturday. At first I was a little nervous and I couldn't catch their fast talk, but I gradually got used to it and enjoyed it because they were kind to me. After finishing the meeting, one man said to me, “If it's possible, would you like to come next Saturday?” so I was very glad. I thought it was a rare and precious experience, and it was the best memory during my homestay.

Feb. 18 (Sun)

We went shopping and then went out to a Japanese restaurant for lunch. Washington is famous for salmon, so its sushi was delicious.

After that, we came home and then Kyle came to our house. Kyle likes watching YouTube, and he showed me some kinds of movies. We enjoyed watching them. He also likes the game named “Minecraft,” and he promised to show it to me the next time and he went back home.

Many Kinds of Sushi

We enjoyed lunch!

Feb. 24 (Sat)

I didn't feel well, so I stayed home all day. I had had a promise to go shopping with Emily and Kim, so I was really sorry I couldn't go.

George didn't feel well, either, so he went to the hospital and then he was hospitalized. Karen and I were very surprised and had dinner with sad feeling. I hoped George would get soon quickly and I went to bed.

Feb. 25 (Sun)

We had had a promise that we were going to ride on a ferry together, but it was canceled because George was in the hospital. Karen visited him there, so I went to Emily's house. Kim was not up yet, but I was happy that Greg talked to me very much. Emily got up around noon and I played with her. Emily had many kinds of card games and board games, and we enjoyed playing them. I had a really good time.

It was decided that George should stay in the hospital for a few days and Karen was with George, so I moved to Laura's house from that day to the last day. Greg took me to Laura's house, and he told me that his family actually wanted to accept me but they couldn't do it because they didn't have some licences to accept Japanese students. And then he said to me, “I'm sorry,” many times, but I was very glad to know that he thought about me that much, so I told him that, and I left him at Laura's house.

I arrived at Laura's house and she welcomed me. I felt relieved and cried a little, but thanks to her, I had a good time after that. Yukina came to Laura's house, too, so we felt it like a school trip and had a fun time. After a few minutes, Laura came to my room and she took Yukina away to Yukina's room, so I went to bed.
