Weekends with Host Family

Sat, Feb 9

I took a walk in the snow with Remi and next-door neighbors in the morning. They had a very cute baby.

In the afternoon, we went to three supermarkets with Ayu's host family and bought some ingredients. I was amazed at Costco with the high ceiling.

We went to a hamburger shop for dinner. I ordered a hamburger and a shake by myself, but I didn't tell it to the clerk well, so Alissa helped me. The hamburger and French fries were very different from those in Japan. The pate was very juicy and the French fries were a little bit hard. They were delicious.

I talked with Alissa about American and Japanese money and Japanese era. Alissa collects money around the world, so I gave her a 100 yen coin.

We went to a theater to do some volunteer work. Shion and her host mother Mary were also there. We watched the play, “The Musical Comedy Murders,” but I didn't understand it at all.

I talked with Alissa about kanji and hiragana after dinner. It was difficult for me to tell the difference between kanji and hiragana.

We went to Seattle by train with Ayu's host family. We visited Ralph's office. It was clean and modern. We got on a Ferris wheel, and saw Space Needle from there.

We went to Ivar's for lunch. I ate clam chowder and fried prawns. We fed the leftover of the deep-fried food to some birds. When I tried to feed them, I couldn't do it well.

In the afternoon, we went to a big mall, and I enjoyed some shopping. We went to a Chinese restaurant for dinner and shared Chinese dumplings and fried rice. All of us liked fried green beans with garlic.

I woke up a little earlier than usual. We went to a gym to play pickleball. It is similar to tennis, but the rules are complicated. It was hard for me to understand them, but I gradually got used to them and enjoyed playing it.

We went to the same theater as the week before. I helped to sell drinks and cookies with Genie and Shion. I was nervous, but I understood what customers wanted to buy. We watched the same play as the week before, so I understood it better.

Alissa asked me what I wanted to have for dinner, so I said that I wanted to have some vegetable soup. Alissa then took us to an Italian restaurant near our house. I ordered minestrone and I liked it very much.

We went to IKEA. It was huger than I had thought. It had a food court like a school cafeteria. I chose a meatball plate and assorted fruits. The meatball was made from vegetables. After we had lunch, we walked around in the store. I enjoyed IKEA.

I played Jenga with Ralph and Genie at home. Ralph's brother and his wife came to our house and ate steak together. We bought the meat at a specialty store for steak meat. I hardly see such a store in Japan.

We went to the gym with Genie's friend and played pickleball. I understood the rules better.

In the afternoon, Ralph took us to a mall. America has many malls, so I envy it. Ralph bought big ice cream for us, but I couldn't finish it.

After we arrived home, we played a video game with Shion. I was bad at using a controller and lost many times, but it was still fun. Ralph cooked grilled tuna and cheese sandwiches. They were excellent.
