Weekends with Host Family

Sat, Feb 9

I went to the shopping mall near our house with George. We went there on foot. The ground was covered with a lot of snow. It was hard to walk, but I saw the beautiful view with snow. Most shops were closed because of heavy snow. I bought a book of cute pictures for my mother.

After that, I watched TV programs for children at home. Karen showed English subtitles on TV for me. The English on the program was easy, so I enjoyed it. I watched a news program with my dictionary too. It was too difficult for me, but I still caught a lot of words.

I baked cinnamon rolls with Karen. We noticed that we didin't have butter, so we went to the shopping mall again for that. Cinnamon rolls were very sweet and so delicious.

I met Emily and Greg at the shopping mall. Emily bought a lot of chocolates for Valentine's Day. I talked with her and I learned a lot about her. She is very cute.

Karen made me some cheese toast. After that, we watched TV and talked with each other.

Sat, Feb 16

George made breakfast every Saturday, and his breakfast was so good. I loved it. I ate biscuits, scrambled egg and crispy bacon.

We went to church. Karen took care of children there, and I saw some young adults there too. Karen introduced me to a woman. She was so kind and I joined to pray with her. Pastor's speech was too difficult for me, but I enjoyed talking with the woman and her friends. One of them spoke Japanese, and I was very surprised.

We went to McDonald's for lunch. I ordered “Filet-O-Fish,” which was tasty. I took French fries home because I was very full. After that, I went to H-Mart, which is a supermarket with a lot of Asian ingredients. I bought some ingredients for miso soup, yakisoba and okonomiyaki.

In the evening, I went to Bible Study. I saw some young adults from church. It was too much English and I couldn't understand, but I felt some American culture. I also listened to beautiful songs. After that, we ate oranges and some sweets. I played UNO with my friends too. The rules were different and I was surprised. I had a good time.

My Friends

Sun, Feb 17

We went to Bellevue Square, which is a very big shopping mall. I bought a card for my friends, and a cap of Cleveland Cavaliers for my brother because he plays basketball. The cap has a signature of a player and my brother was very happy about it.

We went to the seafood restaurant called Crub Pot for lunch. I ate shrimps, potatoes, shellfish, sweet corns and sausages with my bare hands. It was very fun and delicious.

We went to church. I met my friends and talked with them about Japan. They listened to me with great interest. After that, I listened to some speech and songs. It was too much amount of English for me, and I couldn't understand everything, but I still caught some English with my dictionary this time. On the point of going home, my friend invited me to the Bible Study again, but I couldn't go because I had another plan. I saw many wonderful people at the church, and wanted to go there and talk with my friends some other time.

We went to Karen's friends house. We bought some apple crisp, and ate lunch at their house. The house was very big and had the beautiful view. There I met a woman who likes Japanese TV programs. She was surprised to see very young children go shopping alone in the program. She said, “We can't do that in America.” I saw some pictures of Jesus. One picture was very dynamic with lights. My host mother's friend taught me the story of the picture. I had a good time.

We went to a restaurant called Jimmy Mac's Roadhouse for dinner. I ate crawfish chowder. It was the first time that I ate crawfish chowder, and it was so tasty and creamy. I was very surprised to see people dropping empty peanut shells on the floor. Of course, the floor was very dirty, but the peanut tasted good, and I dropped the shells too.

We played CLUE at Emily's house again. I used my brain and I got very tired. I still enjoyed the game and I liked it very much. I wanted the game to play it with my family in Japan. I thought my grandfather would enjoy the game, but I didn't buy the game after all.

Lunch

Sun, Feb 24

We went to another church in the morning. The church was more active than the church we went on Saturday. I listened to speech and songs. I was surprised that the songs were so active.

We went to ALMOND ROKA, which is a chocolate shop. I was very happy when Shion gave me ALMOND ROKA and I liked it. However, the shop was closed on Sundays, so I went to another store of ALMOND ROKA. The shop was very small, but it had a lot of chocolates. Karen bought ALMOND ROKA for my family. After that, we went to a fish store, and I bought some smoked salmon for my family and grandparents. My shopping was finally done.

I went to South Center with Emily and Kim. It is a very big shopping mall. Kim's car was an electric car, and she was driving it automatically without her hands. I enjoyed her driving. We went to store such as Bath and Body Works and LOLLI and POPs. Emily bought a lot of chocolates at LOLLI and POPs. The shop was so cute that it looked like a fairy tale world. I drank boba tea, but Emily and Kim didn't like it.

I ate South American food called Ganbo that George made for dinner. It was spicy, but so tasty, and I liked it. I want to eat it again.
