Weekends with Host Family

Febrary 9

I baked bread with Sloan and Rachel. I then made a snowman and took a lot of pictures.

After that, we watched a movie, but I had a nap for jet lag all too soon. I was surprised to see my host family eating dinner when I got up. I ate vegetable soup for dinner, which was so good.

After dinner, Tanner and Rachel took me to a drive. They guided me around the neighborhood. I loved the street scape at night.

We went to Sloan's mother's house and I met Sloan's mother. She looked so youthful. We ate bean soup, broccoli, potatoes, paprikas, carrots and fruits with hummus. They were delicious. After lunch, we played cards, and I had a good time.

After we came back home, we played “Luck of the Draw. “ It was my first time to play the game, but I enjoyed the game. Sloan made us blueberry pancake and it tasted sweet. Then, we ate some popcorn while watching the movie “Beauty and the Beast.” The atmosphere in the room was like that in a movie theater.

I met Debbie's mother. She was so kind. I hoped she would feel encouragelad by me.

We went to Costco for lunch, and ate a hot dog. I helped Howard and Debbie with their shopping.

After we came back home, Jimmie and Ava came after a short time. I was very happy to meet them. I gave them some presents, and they looked pleased. After we enjoyed making LEGO, we went to a lobster restaurant.

I went to church for the first time. Howard and Debbie gave me the Bible. It had Japanese translation, so it eas easy to read, but the contents of the book were still very difficult. I was surprised that the church had the homey atmosphere and we sang some pop songs to the accompaniment of the guitar and the piano.

After that, many people came and talked to me very friendlily. I was happy to talk with them.

For lunch, I participated in a potluck at church. All the food was delicious.

I went back to church again because Debbie had a class for girls. She taught children about Japanese holidays such as Children's Day. I was happy to see the girls enjoy making a koinobori (carp streamer).

I had a green smoothie bowl for breakfast. It was a healthy morning. We were planning to make gyoza for dinner, so we went to a Japanese grocery store Uwajimaya and bought some ingredients. I met Rachel and Tanner's brother Reed and his wife. Also I met and talked a little with Rachel's friend who loves Gudetama.

I ate a sandwich for lunch and then went to Museum of Glass in Tacoma with Rachel. They had a live glass studio, and we enjoyed watching a glass artist work.

For dinner, I made gyoza with Chad and Rachel. They said it was delicious, so I was happy.

I went to church with the Guisingers. The church had the different atmosphere from the Herndons' church. The church was close to my image. Both children and adults were dressed formally, but I wore denim pants, so I felt that I was not dressed properly for the occasion. I listened to speech, sang some songs and prayed. After that, we moved to a class and listened to Rachel's speech. Her speech was very good. I was impressed by that.

For lunch, I participated in a potluck, whose dishes were delicious. Sloan and Rachel went to pray again, but I had to finish my memory journals, so I came back home in a Reed's car.

In the evening, Rachel and Tanner's friend Abby came to our house, and we baked cookies together. Abby was a cute girl, and I wanted to talk a lot with her. I was surprised when I saw Tanner eat cookie dough, so I tried it too, but I couldn't eat it.
