1st Week

Fri, Feb 16

In the morning, we went to the study center and shared our stories from the previous night. At noon, we went to a nearby shopping area. Alissa bought us clam chowder at Ivar's. It was very tasty. After we cme back to the study center, we practiced for a presentation we were going to do at an elementary school.
After class, I went back home and took a little rest. We then went shopping at the supermarket for the welcome party. Mike and Melody were playing music in the car. It was very fun. At the welcome party, I drew a family flag. I liked it very much.

We went to a baby shower. It was interesting because we don't have it in Japan. After that party, we went to a mall. It was huge, so I got tired of walking. I went into an accessory shop, and it took me a long time to choose. Mike took the items from me and bought them for me. Mike couldn't wait any longer.
We went to a steak restaurant for dinner. I ate a big steak, but it was too heavy for me. I couldn't eat it all. The restaurant gave us free peanuts. Everyone dropped their empty shells on the floor. I was surprised because that wouldn't happen in Japan.

We went to church. We met the host family's son Kyle, his fiancée Shardia, and his daughter Asha. I listened to fun music at the church. I was surprised because I thought the church was more serious. Next, I listened to the pastor talking at church, but his English was too fast for me. I gave up listening to his speech.
After church, we went to a big mall with Kyle's family. We had lunch at the food court. After that, we went to other shops. They bought me room shoes and a T-shirt. When we got home, we played Uno. I was confused because the rule was a little different from the Japanese rules.

It was President's Day, and I spent time with Mike and Melody. Melody took me to a coffee shop in the morning, and I had a very tasty caramel macchiato.  In the afternoon, we went to the cemetery. They explained to me about American cemeteries. Some gravestones had interesting words written on them, such as "kitchen closed" and "love forever and two weeks."
At lunch, we went to a mall and ate hamburgers. I ordered the kids menu, but it was still too much for me. When we got home, I got into the hot tub with Melody. It was a different kind of fun than a Japanese bath.

We gathered at the study center early in the morning and went to Leavenworth. When we got there, we had lunch first. We shared a vegetable burrito, which was thick and heavy. After lunch, we enjoyed shopping. I bought bracelets for myself and souvenirs for my family. In the car on our way back, we played our favorite songs and enjoyed ourselves.
After dinner at home, Melody and I played cards. Melody taught me how to play  "King Corner" and "golf."

We experienced St. Valentine's Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving Day, and Easter in one day. We gave each other Valentine's cards. Next, we changed into costume and started Halloween. I became Big Bird from Sesame Street. We went to a nursing home and got some sweets. After that, we had Thanksgiving lunch. We then tried an Easter egg hunt. I found only one egg.
