DAY 13: 2/27 (Tues.)
cloudy, later rainy
Visit Federal Way City Hall, Municipal Court, and Police Department, and Class
We visited Federal Way City Hall in the morning. We first met Mayor Jim Ferrell, who told us about their sister city relationship with Hachinohe City, Japan, and showed us around in his office. We next had a little chat with a few of the city council members. Our third stop was the municipal court on the same premises, and we met Judge Larson and Judge Bales there. Judge Larson kindly talked about his job, and answered our questions. He even showed us around in the courthouse. We especially enjoyed wearing a judge's robe and taking pictures with him. Our final stop was the Federal Way Police Department, which is located in the same building as the city hall of Federal Way. We had a female staff member show us around and answer some questions about the police work in the area. We hardly saw any police officers in the building, which was unusual. What was going on?
After we came back to the study center, we spent the whole afternoon starting to make a memory journal to give to our host families.
