On the first day of the orientation we had a test (grammar, listening and essay). Depending on the score , we were divided into 5 levels of classes to study in. |
9/16 (Mon) |
We went to an amusement park by bus. It was the first time for me to go to an amusement park, so it was really fun. I made new friends at that time. |
9/19 (Thr) |
I joined the Seattle Trip . If you sign up for it at college, you can join it for free. I went to the first Starbucks coffee store and downtown Seattle. We were allowed to go anywhere when we had free time. |
9/20-21 (Fri-Sat) |
It was the day for CORE . CORE is a 2-day camp. We enjoyed playing games, dancing and horse back riding. Many students joined CORE, so I made new friends! |

Classes
|
I learned English grammar, which I had learned in junior high school and at the beginning of high school in Japan. Gary spoke slowly and easily, so I was able to understand him well. When I asked him some questions, he always taught me kindly. |
Reading/Writing |
We wrote about the topic that the teacher gave us in the writhing class. After I finished, my teacher always checked my paragraph. In the reading class, we used a textbook. |
|
We made presentations and discussions in class. I was not good at speaking, so the class was the most difficult for me. My classmates always supported me. We always used a textbook in the listening class. We had many tests for this class. |
Level 3 (Winter Quarter)
After I passed the classes in level
2, I went up to take the classes in level 3 in the winter quarter. This class had no Japanese
student except myself, so I was very nervous at the beginning, but I
got used to the class soon.

My Classmates |
|
My teacher
was Tim, who was good at teaching and very funny. We learned grammar,
which I had learned in high school in Japan. We had small tests after each
unit. The test was more difficult than that in level 2.
|
|
In the
reading class, we did not use a textbook. We read a book titled “Holes.” It was
difficult for me to read the book. We had a test about the book once a week.
In the writing class, we studied how to write an essay, and we wrote many essays.

|
The teacher for this
class was Emily. In the speaking class, we had many
presentations about many topics. We had 10
minutes for each presentation.
In the listening class,
we listened to
a passege about 10 minutes and wrote it down. I was not good at listening, so I
often listened to English using listening practice web sites on the Net.
