GRCC

GRCC (Green River Community College) has a lot of nature, and students from many countries go there.  The college changed its name to GRC (Green River College) after I came back to Japan.

 Kent Campus

The students in Level 1 to 3 study English at the Kent Campus
.  The students in Level 4 to 5 study at the Main Campus.  Some academic students study at the Kent Camps too.  It has a Sky bridge, computer rooms, and many more.  Kent Campus is located near the Kent Station.  There are a lot of stores around the campus.  I prticularly loved a Vietnames restaurant.  I like their Pho.

Orientation

Orientation(September 12 to 19, 2014)

On the first day of the orientation, we had a test to divide students into each level.  After that, we enjoyed many activities to learn about the college.  I met many people from many countries .  I got friends from overseas for the first time there.

CORE(September 15 to 16, 2014)

CORE is an overnight camp .  The place had a lot of nature like a forest.  There were many kinds of activities on the camp such as paintball shooting, campfire and so on.  I  enjoyed CORE.
Seattle Trip(September 18, 2014)

We went to Seattle and Chinatown in a day.  We were allowed to take our  own course.  I went to the 1st Starbucks Store and a Korean restaurant to eat lunch .  It was so yummy.  There were some Japanese shops in the area too.

Classes

Level 2

Instructor: Gary
I was the only Japanese student in the class, so I was very nervous at first.  However,  the classmates were very friendly.   When I started my presentation one day, my classmates cheered me up in Japanese.
We sometimes had Gary's classes at the main campus, or went to the library.  It was fun.

Grammar
The level of the class was that for junior high school students in Japan , but I had forgot some contents.  I learned more than I did Japan.  After the quarter, I felt I underestood English better than before.

Reading/Writing
At the reading class, we used handouts that Gary brought to class.  After a few weeks, we went to the libraly at the main campus and borrowed a book and read it .  At the writing class, we used a computer and wrote some paragraphs.  Gary gave us the topics.

Speaking/Listening
At the speaking class, we had  presentations by ourselves every 2 weeks .  I was so nervous at  the pressentations.  While we were taking the speaking test with Gary, we saw movies.  At the listening class, we used a textbook and listened to paragraphs.

Instructor: Gary
His class was fun and easy to understand.

Level 3
Instructor: Priscilla (Grammar, Reading and Writing), Ann (Speaking and Listening)
I felt that studying in level 3 was difficult, so I went to the study hall twice a day.  The instructors were very kind.
I had some
classmates from my level 2 class and one more Japanese in each class, so I felt easy, and I enjoyed the classes.

Grammar

We learned grammar of Japanese high school level, but it was still a little difficult for me.  when I had questions, I asked instructors during the break.

Reading/Writing

We  used a textbook and a novel .  Sometimes we were divided into 3 or 4 groups and talked about some topics of the novel.  We also wrote some essays with a computer.

Speaking/Listening

At the speaking class, we had presentations with 2 or 3 students .  We had to act up in a presentation, and I had a hard time with that.  Every Friday, we watched a drama called "Modern Family," and I enjoyed that.

Instructor of grammar: Priscilla
She is very kind.  I asked her a lot of questions.

Instructor of speaking: Ann
She helped me with my pronunciation.
