Host Family

Host mother: Michiko

Michiko is originally from Japan. I was surprised when I first got E-mail from her. However, we always talked in English, and she taught me English pronunciation, American culture, and correct grammar. She was so kind me. She was always busy because she had two jobs: school teacher and a tour guide. Still she always cooked delicious dinner, and I loved her dishes. When we ate dinner, we wached our favorite TV program and if there was a baseball game, we always wached it. I loved the happy time. When her work was off, we went out to Seattle together and went to a restaurant sometimes. Every time we went out somewhere, she took pictures as her memory, and she gave me an album on the final day. I was really happy.

Host brother: Jonathan

Jonathan told us jokes and made us fun, so I really enjoyed when I stayed with him. He lived with his girlfriend, so we didn't have much time to meet each other, but he always cared about me saying ”How's going ?” I was glad to hear those words. He made a lot of handmade Christmas presents, and I was really happy. He loves Japan and Japanese animation, so we talked about recommended anime and differences from American culture. I taught him some easy Japanese, so we were able to communicate with each other a lot. I loved the time when we stayed together.

Host sister: Stephanie

When we met, she always hugged me, and she was really kind to me. She didn't live with us either, and she sometimes came to our house to eat dinner or to go out together. Among the three siblings, we stayed together the longest time. When Michiko was busy, Stephanie always came to our house for dinner and we watched movies together. On my birthday or Christmas, she bought me presents, so I felt that she was like my sister.

Host brother : Raymond

Raymond is the youngest in the family, so everyone loves him so much. He was a little shy, but he taught me English kindly. He also lived by himself, so we didn't have a chance to meet often. Every time he saw me, he gave me a souvenir from his trip, or a Christmas present. He even bought me a beautiful bouquet, two nice pieces of cake, and champagne for my farewell party. I think he is a kind person who can be attentive.

Cat: Pitsy

I was afraid of cats before I met Pitsy. When I first learned that they had a cat home, I didn't want to take care of her, but she was such a baby and really calm. Thanks to her, I got over my fear of cats. She always came to my room to sleep, so we slept together. When I had free time, we played with cats toys. She healed my study fatigue so much. Everyone in the family loved her so much as a family idol.

We took classes at the Kent campus in the first quarter. It took me about 40 minutes by bus from my house to the Kent campus. We then went to the main campus in Aurburn in the second quarter. I needed to change buses, so it took me about 1 hour to get to the campus. Michiko always drove me to school during the second quarter. If I took a bus, there were some of my friends on the same bus, and the time passed so quickly. I had my own bathroom at home, so I didn't need to worry about other people, but I really worried about cleaning the bathroom. I did the laundry once or twice a week, and did the sishes all by myself. I always ate food in the fridge for breakfast and lunch. Michiko cooked wonderful Japanese dishes for dinner.

I lived in this house for months.
