When
I was in high school, I learned Seiryo College had the studying
abroad program, and I got interested in it. I
wanted to study what I could learn only in America by
hearing a story from the student who actually went to study
abroad. One of the reasons I decided to study abroad was that I
wanted to study abroad from the beginning, but I thought I wanted
to grow as a person by studying in America. English was the
easiest subject for me, but while I was studying English, I got
very worried because I had many unfamiliar words, and my TOEIC
score was really low. I was aware of my real skills. Among
them, English conversation classes were very enjoyable, so I
tried my best to talk with a foreigner very much. I was excited
to start studying in the United States, but I still felt a bit
lonely when I left my parents.
When
I arrived in America, a language barrier
stood up in front of me. I could catch the words, but it
was still difficult to have communication with them. At the
beginning, I was afraid of making mistakes and I couldn't speak
up from myself, and even if I talked, the conversation didn't
last. However, I decided to change my mind to be positive. I
thought I could not change anything without taking action from
myself. From that time, I made an effort to talk to anybody and
to make friends, or to keep talking . Then, people around me were
very good at talking, and we became friends soon. In addition, I
searched for events that I could speak with native English
speakers, and I went to church weekly to speak English. I
was happy to be able to speak better and laugh together more than
before.
There
were so many homeless pepole in America, and I was surprised to
see them for the first time. I wanted to get involved for them as
a volunteer. I learned how to communicate in such a place. I
participated in the volunteer work twice, and there were a lot of
people who made and bought a lot of food each time, and I was
very impressed. I felt America was a better place to live in than
Japan. Each American had each different
color, and I thought it was a good thing. For example, I
strongly felt that it was important to have an individuality in
America, such as a culture where you need to express you
own idea. I was able to meet many foreigners while I was studying
English in America, and of course I learned
English, how to communicate and learn the wonderful culture of
America. My sense values has changed dramatically. You
should grow yourself if you go to study in the United States. I
hope you will have this wonderful experience that you can have
only now. I'm really glad that I participated in this program. I
want you to feel this experience too.
Finally,
I am grateful to my parents, teachers and friends
for giving me such a wonderful experience. I
think that it is my mission to continue growing up.
I will continue to work after this experience.
