GRC
Oientation
First, new students had an orientation and a placement test for their classes at GRC. After that, we joined Seattle Trip and CORE. |
Seattle Trip
|
New students visited Seattle by bus. We went to many places such as Pike Place Market, the first shop of Starbacks, China Town, and Alki Beach. You can communicate with a lot of people and make many friends. The trip isn't mandatory, but I recommend you joining this event. |
CORE
|
After Seattle Trip, we participated in CORE . It was an overnight trip for new students. This event isn't mandatory, either, but I recommend you joining it because it is really fun. During the daytime, we experienced activities of horseback riding, rope, archery, and paint ball. At night, we enjoyed campfire and dancing. The dance room was like that in a night club. We enjoyed dancing and watching some movies until midnight. I was excited, and I spent a nice time. You can make a lot of friends there. |
Classes
We took the fall quarter and the winter quarter, and both lasted for 3 months. We studied Grammer, Reading/Writing, and Speaking/Listening. The classes at GRC had good atmosphere. For example, we felt free to ask teachers any questions, and we participated in our class positively. You may feel that your class is difficult at first, but you can understand it easily because the teachers speak English slowly. Also, GRC had the main campus and Kent campus. Students from level 1 to level 5 studied on the main campus. |
Level 2 Classes
Class Contents |
We studied about sentence structures that we had studied in high school as well as writing and listening. I think the class isn't as difficult as you think. |
Teacher (Gary) |
Our teacher Gary was gentle, and he sometimes told us jokes. He always used great PPT materials. He has a Japanese wife, so he understands Japanese and Japanese culture, and speaks Japanese sometimes. |
Classmates |
I really enjoyed this class because everybody was cheerful. Many people in the class liked Japan, so we talked about Japanese anime and songs a lot. In our free time, we ate snacks and studied together. |

Level 3 Classes
Class Contents |
Level 3 was quite hard compared to level 2. While we learned to write paragraphs in Level 2 classes, we learned to write essays in Level 3 classes. We listened to a lecture for 10 minutes while taking notes, and we answered some questions after we watched some videos about 15 minutes. Listening wasn't easy, but thanks to funny videos, we enjoyed learning. |
Teachers (Tim, Sam) |
Tim's teaching was fun because his action was always funny. He explained things to us until we understood them, so we learned them easily. He made us Thai carry for our final class. It was delicious. Sam usually teaches the students in Level 4, so his class was like the Level 4 class. It means that it was a little difficult for us. Although it wasn't easy, we felt easy to study because Sam often communicated well with all the students in class. I talked with him a lot after class. |
Classmates |
Everyone got along well. We had a lot of group activities and exchanged ideas with each other. I was happy to spend the quarter with those members. |
