Host Family

I stayed with a family of Philippino Americans from September to early November.
My housemates were from Mongolia and Indonesia, and we often cooked our food and worked on college assignments together.

At first, I was worried if I could follow the conversation in English because I couldn't respond right away in English, but all three of my housemates waited kindly for my responses every time we talked together. They also told me that I didn't need to be concerned about my English because they understood what I said properly. They were so nice to me that I could feel at ease.

They all speak English fluently, like English native speakers. They sometimes taught me natural English expressions, and I improved, especially my English listening and speaking skills, thankfully.

I enjoyed BBQ with my housemates and eating ramen at Tokyo-Ya, a Japanese restaurant, with my host mother!!

In late November, I moved into a new host family's house. They were also so nice to me, and I am grateful for them.

The host mother loves cooking and prepared various meals for me every day. She also likes baking and crafting, so we sometimes baked chocolate chip cookies and talked about the ornaments that she made by herself together. I like crafting as well, and I enjoyed talking with her about our work.

Besides, all family members like to watch horror movies. We often watched movies together.
The host father especially loves horror and recommended me a lot of movies. Thanks to them, I got into watching horror movies even though I had never watched movies in the genre.

My host father is from Mexico, and my host mother is from Indonesia, so she often cooked Mexican food for me. I have always loved Mexican food, such as tacos, and the taco that my host mother cooked was the best one in my life.

On Christmas Eve, they took me to a chapel. I listened to a hymnal and a wonderful story by the pastor there.

On New Year's Eve, a lot of their relatives came to the house and held a party. The host mother cooked a lot of feasts for us, and they were amazing. It was the first time for me to have a party with so many members, and I enjoyed spending time with them together.


I made a lot of warm memories at home.
I am really grateful for both families to welcome me warmly!!
