Final Remarks
Before entering Niigata Seiryo University Junior College, I learned about the existence of
a study abroad program, so I got interested. By looking at
photos of short-term studying abroad and the other programs and attending
orientations, my will became strong. When I told my parents about studying
abroad, they agreed and supported me. Since I decided to go to the US, I got so busy.
I realized how my English skills were insufficient because I was struggling to
keep up with the class just because I like to study English.
Particularly, the speaking class was really difficult for me. The only thing I could say
was gyesh and gno.h I remember that I had a huge amount of anxiety about
how I could go to the US and study there. When I saw my score on the TOEIC,
or my English skills, I got really pessimistic, comparing myself to others. Yet
I left Japan with the hope that I would be able to make it to
America. After arriving in the US, I was faced with a language barrier . First, I couldnft catch what my host mother said or what the staff told me in the mall. I was so depressed that I didnft want to use English at all. I was truly negative, so I avoided using English so as not to feel depressed. However, I thought I couldnft grow myself as it was, and there was no point in coming here if I gave up, so I studied hard anyway. I reviewed what I had learned that day, took note of many vocabularies that I didnft know, and wrote my feelings down on paper. Thanks to those efforts, I broke the language barrier gradually. From that time on, I changed myself little by little and got out of being pessimistic. If we make efforts, our thoughts and the fullness of our lives will change, I think. Through this program, the hurdles of using English, going abroad, and doing things by myself went dramatically down. It is a rare experience to study in America. I think this program sponsored by Niigata Seiryo Junior College must have great values. If you are at least a little bit interested and willing to work hard, please do not hesitate to join the program. I was really supported by many people, including the teachers, my friends, my family, and Mr. Yokoyama. Thank you very much. |
