Denise's Lessons

Denise is our teacher guide. She is a beautiful woman. We studied with Denise at the study center. We learned about American Culture, Holidays, Special Meals and so on from Denise. I enjoyed her class every time.

Feb 17 (Fri)

On that day, we took Denise's lesson for the first time.  In the morning, we had an American game with Denise and she taught us some rules of homestay.
In the afternoon, we walked to
a discount store called Target.  We enjoyed having lunch and shopping in the mall.
   In the evening, we had
our welcome party at the study center. Alexis was not feeling well, so I went to the party with Bruce. Bruce's son Chris and his fiancee April came to see me too, and I was really happy to meet them. We had some delicious dishes. I had a great time with my host family.

Feb 20 (Mon)

We visited a fire station. We asked many questions about American fire stations. After that, we took some pictures with the firefighters. We got on a fire engine and an ambulance too. We had a chance to put on a fire fighter suit, but I didn't try it. I felt a little regret for that, but the visit was still a good experience for us.

Feb 22 (Wed)

We went to Leavenworth, which is a German style village. It took about 3 hours  from the study center to Leavenworth by bus. It was very cold in the village. There were many stores to buy souvenirs. We had German dishes for lunch. The meal was really delicious.

Feb 27 (Mon)

We visited Alexis' elementary school, and taught children how to count from 1 to 10 in Japanese. We also taught them how to write their names in Japanese. I felt so nervous that I made a few mistakes during our presentation, but that's okay. I enjoyed talking and playing with the children. I like little children, so I was very happy to spend the time with them.

Feb 28 (Tue)

We learned about American holidays. We first enjoyed coloring eggs for Easter. They turned out cute.
At lunch time, we had many dishes. We brought special dishes for American holidays made by our host families.
In the afternoon, we wore costumes for Halloween. I became a pirate.

Feb 29 (Wed)

We went to Seattle on a sightseeing trip all day long. First, we visited University of Washington. We looked into the huge library of the university. It looked like Hogwarts School of Harry Potter. Second, we visited the Space Needle. On that day, the weather was bad, so we couldn't go up the tower. Third, we visited Pike Place Market. Natsumi and I had a street artist draw our portrait. He spoke a little Japanese, and his favorite phrase is "Odoroku!," which meant "You would be surprised." After that, we enjoyed shopping, and I bought many souvenirs. Third, we visited Safeco Field. We took some pictures and bought Mariners goods. Finally, we visited Uwajimaya. There were many Japanese food at the store. I spent my money a lot.

Mar 5 (Mon)

In the evening we held the Sayonara Party. We wore "Yukata," and our team gave a presentation about New Year's Eve in Japan. I was very nervous, but I enjoyed giving the presentation after all. After that, I gave Bruce, Sandra and Alexis a journal, a photo frame and a magnet. Denise gave us a certificate for the homestay program. At that moment, I still couldn't imagine leaving America the following day.
