Denise's Lessons

Denise is our teacher guide. She is very kind and funny.  We studied English and American culture with her on weekdays at the study center. When we worried about something, she always helped us out. Her class is interesting. I love Denise.

Feb. 17 (Fri) The First Lesson & Welcome Party

Denise's first lesson started at 9 a.m. This day, we had some games in English, and looked around the study center too.  After the lesson, we went shopping to the mall near the study center. We ate lunch there and we took a walk around the mall after lunch. We shopped there too.
Our welcome party was held in the evening. We enjoyed many dishes from each home. Daryl couldn't come to the welcome party, because he had to work. I enjoyed talking with Jane and my friend's host families.

Feb. 20 (Mon) Visit Fire Department

We visited a fire department. First, we learned about American fire department from the chief of the department and we asked him some questions about the fire department. Next, we got on a  fire engine and I wore a fire fighting suit myself. The suit was very heavy. We took some pictures. Some of us tried a water-shooting exercise but I didn't try it. I should have tried it.

Feb. 22 (Wed) Trip to Leavenworth

We went to a German village called Leavenworth. It took us about 3 hours from the study center to Leavenworth. It was a little cold and there was some snow on the ground. We ate German food for lunch, and it was delicious and a little spicy. We went to a hat shop, a chocolate shop, a Christmas goods shop and so on after lunch. I was excited. Leavenworth had many funny shops and nice shops.

Feb. 24 (Fri) Visit Green River Community College & Senior Home

We visited  Green River Community College in the morning. The college was surrounded with nature and the campus was very large. We ate lunch there. It was delicious.
We visited a senior home in the afternoon. It looked like an expensive hotel

Feb. 27 (Mon) Visit Elementary School

We went to an elementary school for presentation. We taught children how to count from 1 to 10 in Japanese. I was very nervous at first, but I enjoyed the visit after all. The students were so smart that they learned quickly. I was surprised. We gave presentations in many classes. We taught children how to write their names in "Hiragana" and "Katakana" too. The students were friendly and full of energy.
During the recess time, I played with some students. It was fun.

Feb. 28 (The) American Holiday & Costume Day

We studied about American holidays. After that, we colored Easter eggs. I painted my egg pink.
After lunch, we played fruit basket and had a birthday party. They made me excited.  We wore costumes of Halloween. Everyone looked funny and cute. We took many pictures.

Feb. 29 (Wed) Seattle Sightseeing

We went to Seattle by bus. We visited Pike Place Market, the first Starbucks store and Safeco Field. The day was cloudy and rainy, so we didn't go up to Space Needle. Pike Place Market had a large area and a lot of fish, chocolates, fruits and so on. I bought many souvenirs that day. I was very excited. I want to go to Space Needle next time. Seattle is a beautiful city. We went to Uwajimaya too. This store had many Japanese foods. Some of us bought ingredients for making Japanese dishes for our host families at home.

Mar. 5 (Mon) Sayonara Party

We prepared for the Sayonara Party during the day. We prepared for the hall and practiced our presentation many times. At the Sayonara Party, my team talked about "Kanji." I was very nervous but I did my best and succeeded in the presentation. Denise gave us graduation certificates. I was a little sad. I didn't want to go back to Japan.
