Denise's Classes

Denise    We studied  at a local church "the Study Center" with Denise.  Denise is a teacher guide of ours.  She is very kind and cheerful.  Her classes gave us a lot of information about America and it was very interesting.

February 17th, Friday   "Welcome Party"

We had arrived in Seattle on the day before.  In class, we took a walk around the study center and we went to a shopping mall.  We enjoyed shopping and looking around some American stores.
In the evening, we had a welcome party.  It's a potluck dinner party, and my family brought lasagna.  It was really good!

February 20th, Monday   "Fire Department"

We visited a fire department.  We learned some differences in fire departments between America and Japan.  Most of the firefighters are volunteer in America.  I was surprised to hear that.  We wore firefighter suits and got on a fire truck.
In the afternoon, we learned how to use American coins in class.
After the class, Karen, Emily, Kyle and I went to a community pool.  I went to the pool for the first time, and it was fun.

February 22nd, Wednesday   "Leavenworth"

We went to Leavenworth.  It was a long drive, so we brought some snacks from home. There were many cute shops for Christmas ornaments in Leavenworth.  We went to a funny hat shop and took many funny pictures.
In the evening, George and Karen took me to Mongolian Grill for  dinner.  We chose our favorite ingredients including seafood,  vegetables, noodles and so on.  And a chef cooked them in front of us.  I enjoyed the dinner very much.

February, 27th Monday   "Elementary School"

We visited  an elementary school and taught the students how to count from one to ten in Japanese.  The students were interested in it, so I was happy.  We also taught them how to write their names in Japanese.  I also made Origami with some students.  American children were so cute!  We enjoyed having conversations with the children.

February 28th, Tuesday   "American Holiday"

We studied about American holidays.   In the morning, we colored some Easter eggs and tried an Easter egg hunt.  We ate many traditional dishes for lunch.  Everything was delicious.
In the afternoon,  we put on costumes for Halloween.  Denise wore a costume of Totoro. She was very cute!  We had a wonderful time.

February 29th, Wednesday   "Seattle"

We went sightseeing in Seattle.  Unfortunately, the weather was bad.  We went to Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the first Starbucks coffee store, Safeco Field and so on.  Some of us had our portrait drawn by a street artist in Pike Place Market.  In the picture, I was transformed into the Statue of Liberty.  I was surprised to see it.  It was a memorable souvenir for me.
In the evening, Emily and I enjoyed
roller-skating.  It was the first time that I had ever tried roller-skating. It was very hard for me, but I got excited!

March 5th, Monday   "Sayonara Party"

We had the Sayonara Party.  We then wore "Yukata."  Emily sent me two letters before our presentation.  I read one right there, and the other in Japan.  I wept for joy when I read it.
We gave a presentation about New Year's Eve in Japan for our host families at the party.   I was very nervous, but everyone listened intently to my speech.  I thought our host families were very kind and friendly.
After the presentation, Denise gave us a certificate for homestaying. I felt very emotional and I didn't want to go back to Japan.
We then enjoyed talking with our host family.  I couldn't believe that I was going back to Japan the next day.
