Laura

     Laura was our teather guide.  She is a very lively person.  She taught us lot of things.  Our English skills were improving thanks to her classes

Mary

     Mary was the area manager for our program.  She is very kind.  I went to Mary's house before class on weekday morning.  She has a big dog, and I played with her.  Mary and I talked about a lot of things.   





Feb. 14th Thu.   Arrival Day
     We arrived in America!  After we met Laura and Mary at the airport,  we went to Snoqualmie Falls and Chocolate Factory. Chocolate Factory was very crowded for St Valentine's Day.
     After sightseeing, we met our host family late in the afternoon.   We were very excited to meet our host family.   Kathleen came to get me, and we shook hands. 
     After shopping with Kathleen, I met Bill at home.  My host family gave me chocolates and a card for St. Valentine's Day.  I was very happy about that.


Feb. 15th Fri.   Welcome Party
     I went to a volunteer activity with Mary before class, and we made a lot of sandwiches for homeless people.
     In class, we learnd some gestures and how to write the address of our host family's.
     We held the Welcome Party in the evening,  and we ate delicious food.  Kathleen made us garlic toast, and it was so good!


Feb. 18th Mon.  Visit Fire Department
     We visited a local fire station.  We saw a fire engine, some special tools, fire-fighting suits and so on.  The firefighters were very kind.  We experienced shoothing water with a hose.  
      After school, Kathleen and I went to a one-dollar shop. I thought that American one-dollar shops and Japanese ones were almost the same.  


Feb. 19th Tue.   Go Shopping to Tacoma and Made Temari Balls  
     In the morning, we went to a Tacoma mall.  We first ate crispy cream doughnut, and it was very delicious!  We went to Forever 21, which was very big, and  we were so excited.
     That afternoon, we learned how to make a Temari ball.  We enjoyed making one. 
     After school, Kathleen took me to Brown's Point Lighthouse Park.  We had very good weather that day, and saw a great view of Tacoma City. 
     After dinner, we went watching stars.  I was looking forward to it, so I was very excited.  We watched a lot of stars, the moon, and Jupiter.  I was able to see the craters of the moon clearly.  Bill made his own telescope.  I was  surprised to hear that.  


Feb. 20th Wed.   Visit Police Department and City Hall
     We visited a local police department and the City Hall.  They were in the same building.  Inside the police department was like a maze.  We saw police patrol cars and motorcycles in the parking lot. We asked a police officer and the mayor some questions.  I couldn't ask questions very well, and I was very irritated by myself. 
     Bill made special soup for dinner,  and it was very delicious. 
     After dinner, Bill searched for my hometown with the Google Earth, and we talked about my hometown
    Kathleen and I talked about her comunity college too.  She took various kinds of  classes at college.  She also used to draw cartoons for comic books.  She showed me her comic books.


Feb. 21st Thu.   Sightseeing in Leavenworth
     We went to Leavenworth.  The town had a lot of cute buildings.  We went to a Christmas ornament shop, a chocolate shop, a seasoning shop and so on.  We ate ice cream and German food, and they were very delicious.  We enjoyed sightseeing. 


Feb. 22nd Fri.   Visit Green River Community College and Senior Home
     We visited Green River Community College and a local senior home.  GRCC was a very big college.  We saw a lot of students from all over the world.  A Japanese girl spoke to us, and she spoke English very fluently.  We also met our old friends from Seiryo studying at the college.
     After that, we went to a local senior home.  The place looked like a hotel.  We sang some Japanese songs for the residents.  The old men and wemen looked happy with us.  We met a Japanese old woman there, and she was very powerful.
     After school, Kathleen and I went to a See's candies store.  The cashier gave us some chocolate samples. We later saw a Hot Dog truck.  It looked so funny!


Feb. 25th Mon.   Holiday Experience
     We tried some holiday activites.  We wore special costumes for Halloween.  We ate special meals for Thanksgiving.  Each host family made some delicious food for our lunch that day, and we enjoyed the meal.  Kathleen made some stuffing, and I liked it.
     In the evening I watched a DVD about California and Washington with my family.  Bill and Kathleen told me about their hometown.  I learned that both California and Washington have a lot of good sightseeing spots.  I thought that I wanted to go there someday.


Feb. 26th Tue.   Visit Elementary School
     We visited an elementary school.  We taught children how to count from one to ten in Japanese.  We gave our presentation for about 15 classes.  The children were very lively, and they listened to our presentation positively.  
     We ate lunch with the children, too.  They had some deserts, and they were trading the deserts with each other.  Some gilrs gave deserts to me.  I was very happy about that.
     After lunch, we played with the children, and they were very friendly.
     One girl said to me, "You look twelve years old!"


Feb. 27th Wed.   Craft Day
     We made Niku-Jaga for Laura and a photo frame for our host family.  We didn't peel vegetables for niku-jaga.  I ate Japanese food after a long time.  We enjoyed Niku-Jaga.
     In the evening, we went to a planetarium.  I felt sorry for myself when I didn't understand the explanation very well at the planetarium.  I enjoyed the beautiful planetarium anyway.


Feb. 28th Thu.   Sightseeing in Seattle
     We went to Seattle for sightseeing. 
     At first, we visited the University of Washington.  The university was very huge, and it even had a bowling alley.  I was surprised to see that.  
     After that, we went to downtown Seattle.  We visited some famous sightseeing spots.  We saw a television crew at Pike Place Market, and got an interview.  We were  on television the next evening.
     Kathleen had gone to her singing practice that day, so Bill came to pick me up, but we couldn't find each other by mistake.  After all, we met about fifty minutes later.  I felt so sorry about that.  
     Bill and I went to a Burger King, and we ate hamburgers.  We talked about Japan as well as some episodes about Bill and Kathleen's trip


Mar. 1st Fri.   Craft Day and Free Afternoon
     The class was over by noon, and  I went to Tacoma with my host family in the afternoon.  We went to a "Subway" for lunch.  I thought that Ameican Subway had a lot kinds of topping.
     After lunch, we went to a souvenir shop, and sent Bill to his office.
     Kathleen and I then went to a car museum. The car museum was very huge with various kinds of cars.  I had never seen so many cars that I got excited.  
     After that, we went to Tacoma City.  The streets were very cute.  We next went to Point Defiance Park.  The park had a lot of nature.  It was cloudy that day, and it was a little dark in the park, which was scary.


Mar. 4th Mon.   Sayonara Party
     We held our Sayonara Party.  We gave a presentation about Japanese Hot Springs.  I got very nervous at the presentation, but we made it a success after all. Our host family enjoyed it, and my host family was proud of me too.  I was very happy.
