Laura's Classes

We enjoyed learning English and spent a great time with Laura.

Laura is our teacher guide. She is funny and kind.   She always made me feel fun and relax.     @@







Feb. 14 (Sat.)

We arrived in Seattle and met Laura . We went shopping to a mall, a chocolate factory, a hamburger's shop, Snoqualmie Falls and an outlet shopping mall. 

After that, we arrived at the study center and met our host family . Ben and Gwen were waiting for me with their smiles. They were so kind.
I went to a grocery store with Gwen. I was surprised to see that everything in America was bigger than that in Japan .   I ate grilled salmon, coleslaw and scone for dinner. They were so delicious! After dinner, I gave Ben and Gwen souvenirs I had brought from Japan. I was happy because they were glad.








Feb. 16 (Mon.)

It was our first day at the study center.  In the morning, we had an orientation class.  After that, we went to a lot of shops near the study center with Morgan, Logan and Kara.   I felt things were cheaper in the shops than those in Japan .  

In the evening, I went to a bowling alley with Gwen.   Then, Gwen introduced me to her friends.   They were kind and friendly.  I enjoyed talking with them and watching bowling. 

 





Feb. 17 (Tue.)

In the morning, we learned how to ask questions .   After the class, we went to a doughnut shop "Krispy&Kream."   We ate many kinds of doughnuts, and they were too sweet.  After that, we went to Tacoma Mall, and we spent some time looking around and shopping.   All of us built our own bear in a toy bear workshop. 

In the evening, we had the welcome party.   We enjoyed playing a game and eating American food.   We had a great time with our host families .    






Feb. 18 (Wed.)

I got up early.   That day, we went to Leavenworth with Catoriona.   We arrived in Leavenworth and saw many German style buildings with many cute shops.  I bought some sorvenirs for myself and my host family, and I enjoyed looking around there.   Then, we ate German food.   We ate many kinds of sausages and pickles.  They were delicious except for  red pickles .

In the evening, I played card games (Go fishing, SKIP-BO)  with Gwen and Hannah.   It was fun! 






Feb. 19 (Thu.)

In the morning, we wrote a postcard for Japan and prepared questions for our afternoon visit to the city hall.  

In the afternoon, we visited the city hall, the police department and the courthouse.   We asked some questions, but I couldn't understand some answers because the staff who showed us around spoke too fast
After the class, I went to Glass Museum with Gwen, Hannah, Makoto and Mayu.   There were a lot of beautiful glass works, and we saw process of making glasses too.   After that, we went to "Taco Time" to eat Tacos.  It was difficult to eat, but delicious.






Feb. 20 (Fri.)

In the morning, we learned how to make and tell stories .

Around the noon, we visited Green River Community College, and we met our old friends.  I was glad to meet and talk with them. After that, we visited a local nursing home.   The building looked like a luxurious hotel .   Then we sang "Furusato," "Amefuri" and "Mary Had A Little Lamb" for the senior people.   We enjoyed talking with them too.

After the class, I cooked Okonomi-yaki and miso soup with Hannah.  I was happy they said to me, "Delicious."










Feb. 23 (Mon.)

Wewent to the fire station , and asked some questions.   The firefighters were kind and cool.  After that, we got on a fire truck and an aid car and took many pictures.  We tried putting on firefighter suit and shooting water too.  The suit and the hose were heavy, but it was fun!

After we came back to the study center, we made cookies.   Laura taught us how to measure for cooking in America .  It was a little difficult for me, but we finally made delicious cookies.






Feb. 24 (Tue.)

We visited an elementary school .   Then we taught children how to count from one to ten in Japanese and answered some questions from the students .   After our presentation, we taught them Katakana too.   They tried writing their names in Katakana.   They were so cute.   We later ate lunch and enjoyed playing together .  I spent a fun time but I was very tired.

In the evening, my host family and I cooked handmade hamburger.   It was the best I had ever eaten.  After dinner, we watched the movie "Night Museum"in English.   It was interesting.  






Feb. 25 (Wed.) 

It was the day for  Seattle sightseeing .   First, we visited the University of Washington.   It had a huge library which looked like a castle.   When we were looking around there, Mr.Nonaka started dancing.   I couldn't stand laughing.  

After that, we went to Pike Place Market with a lot of shops.   Then, I looked around and bought some sorvenirs .  

In the evening, I went to Jane's house with Gwen and Hannah.   Jane taught me how to make a small bag and an album.   It was a fun time.  






Feb. 26 (Thu.)

It was a craft day.   Mayu's host mother Jane came to our class to teach us some crafts.   Jane was good at craft.   Then she taught us how to make a postcard, and I made a beautiful one.   It became a nice present for my host family .  

After I came back home, I made cards with Gwen again.   Gwen was good at craft too.  She had a lot of stuff for craft.   I used it and made two birthday cards.  






Feb. 27 (Fri.)

We started making a photo frame to give our host family.  After that, we went to a bowling alley and bowled two games with some of our host families.  Laura was a very good bowler.  She mostly had the strike zone.   We spent a really fun time.

After dinner, I made some apple pie with Ben.  Ben is good at making sweets.   I was surprised that he used too much suger, but the apple pie was so delicious! I ate one piece at nine p.m.










Mar. 2 (Mon.)

We learned about some American holidays.   At lunchtime, we ate a typical American holiday meal.  I was surprised American people ate turkey with cranberry sauce.  I experienced that for the first time.   Then we enjoyed putting on Halloween costumes and getting some candies for "Trick or Treat."   Finally, we ate pumpkin pie.  That day, I ate a lot of food .    I was happy.






Mar. 3 (Tue.)

We made a journal and a photo frame .   I worked hard. 
After that, we ate S'more that Jane made.  We became messy, but S'more was delicious! S'more became my favorite.







Mar. 4 (Wed.)

In the morning, we finished making presents for our host family.   After that, we enjoyed late lunch and shopping at TARGET.  
We came back to the study center, and we changed into Yukata.   Then we prepared and practiced our presentation for the Sayonara Party.  

At the Sayonara Party, we  were able to make our presentation successful.  After that, we enjoyed talking, playing and taking pictures with our host families.
