Teacher Guide

   Laura is our teacher guide.  She is a very funny and wonderful person .  She always made us laugh with jokes.  We learned a lot of things from her, and enjoyed her classes.


Feb. 16th (Mon)
  
We had Laura's first class in the morning and she taught us some rules of homestaying .  And then we looked around the neighboring area and enjoyed shopping.  I bought some cosmetics in TARGET. 
   In the evening, I talked with Mary about my family and friends .  Both of us liked "Criminal Minds," so we watched it.



Feb. 17th (Tue)
  
We went to Tacoma Mall.  First, we went to a doughnut shop and tried many kinds of doughnuts.  They were sweeter than Japanes ones .  After lunch, we enjoyed shopping and we built our own teddy bears .  
   In the evening, I helped Mary make deviled egg and snacks for the welcome party.  We played a game, talked with each host family and ate a lot of delicious food at the party .



Feb. 18th (Wed)
  
We went to Leavenworth.  It took about three hours to get there by bus.  We enjoyed sightseeing.  German style buildings and the view were very beautiful .  We saw many kinds of shops, and bought some souvevirs for our host family and friends.  We also ate German food for lunch.


 
Feb. 19th (Thur)
  
In the afternoon, we went to the city hall, a local police department and a court .  We asked some questions and looked around the place.  We put on a judge's black robe for our pictures .
   In the evening, I went to Kako's house with Mayu, and we met ferrets.  They were so cute.  After that, we went to the Museum of Glass .  We saw a lot of beautiful glass works, and some children's designs were so unique.



Feb. 20th (Fri)
   
We told Laura a Japanese folktale "The Peach Boy " in English.  It was a little difficult to explain the story .  In the afternoon, we went to Green River Community College .  The college was full with nature.  We met our friends who were studying abroad for the first time in six months, and we enjoyed talking with each other.  Then we visited a local nursing home , and sang Japanese songs for its residents. 
   Mary made omelets for dinner, which  was full of cheese and very delicious !



Feb. 23rd (Mon)
   
We visited a local fire station .  We asked firefighters many questions and looked around the station.  The firefighters also helped us put on a firefighter suit and spray water with a heavy water hose.  They were very kind and cool.  We spent a good time at the station.  In the afternoon, we made cookies.  The measurement in America is different from that in Japan, so it was difficult to measure the quantity of the ingredients.
   In the evening, I watched the movie  "The Sound of Music "with Mary.  She recommended watching it, and it was a very good movie .  I wanted to watch it again. 



Feb. 24th (Tue)
  
We visited a local elementary schoolWe told children how to count from one to ten in Japanese and taught them how to write their name in katakana too .  We also ate lunch with children and played with them on the school ground.  They were so active that I got tired, but they were so friendly and cute, and I had a good time. 
   In the evening, I watched the movie "The Muppet ."  I thought that it was a movie for children, but it was very moving and great for adults too



Feb. 25th (Wed)
  
We went to Seattle for sightseeing .  First, we visited the University of Washington .  The university was very huge and beautiful.  The library looked like the one in Harry Potter's world.  We then visited  a lot of famous places such as Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the first Starbucks Coffee, Safeco Field and so on .  We bought a lot of souvenirs for our host family and friends. 
   In the evening, I went to Mayu's house with Kako and Nami.  We ate a delicious dinner, and Mayu's hostmother Jane taught us how to make an album and a purse with some kraft paper .  We had a great time. 



Feb. 26th (Thur)
  
Jane came to our class and taught us how to make a 3D pop-up message card .  My card didn't open because I used too much glue, but thanks to Laura's help, I made it alright in the end.    
   In the evening, I went to Costco.  After dinner, we watched the movie "Mamma Mia! " It was a fun and good movie .  



Feb. 27th (Fri)
  
In the morning, we made a photo frame for our host families .  After that, we went bowling .  Laura was very good at bowling, and taught us how to bowl.  I'm not good at bowling, and someone said that my bowling looked like a game to throw a ball into a gutter. 
   In the evening, I went to a supermarket with Mary.  I bought some snacks as souvenirs.  We ate meat loaf and steamed potato with butter at dinner.  They were very delicious and the potato was so big that I ate too much and got full.  



Mar. 2nd (Mon)
  
We experienced American holiday activities .  We wore Halloween costumes and went to the church office to get some candies for "Trick or Treating."  We also hunt for Easter Eggs.  We ate traditional holiday meals such as turkey, pumpkin pie, and mashed potato for lunch.  We spent a great time.  
   In the evening, Glenn and I went to the bank and drove around the local area.  After that, I made egg muffin with Mary.  It was more delicious than that in McDonald's. 



Mar. 3rd (Tue)
  
We made photo frames and memory journals for our host families, and I finally finished my photo frame.  After lunch, we ate S'more.  It was delicious, but a llitle difficult to eat.  Mary picked me up early and we went shopping.  I bought a lot of souvenirs for my family and friends. 
   In the evening, I made a Japanese meal "Nikujaga" for my family I made it for eight people.  Glenn and Mary ate it happily, so I was really happy. 



Mar. 4th (Wed)
  
In the morning, we finished making the memory journals for our host families, and we went to a restaurant to eat late lunch.  It was the last lunch to eat together .  After that, we practiced our presentation and put on yukata  for the Sayonara Party.  
   In the evening, we took part in the Sayonara Party .  Many people came to the party.  I was very nervous and made a few mistakes, but I enjoyed eating and talking with our guests.  I did't feel that I would be going back to Japan the next day. 
   At home, Glenn and Mary gave me some presents and we talked about the past three weeks. I thought that the three weeks were a precious experience for me .
