Weekdays with Laura

Laura

(Teacher Guide)

Laura is so cheerful and funny. She taught us a lot in short three weeks. It was a very fun time.

February 12

We took Laura's class for the first time. In the afternoon we went to a supermarket and a chocolate shop nearby. All things in the supermarket in America were big. At the chocolate shop, we sampled a variety of chocolates. We had the welcome party in the evening, and played games with our host families. Then, we ate the foods which the host families brought. I had a chance to talk to other host families and I enjoyed talking a lot with my host family too.

In the morning we went to a doughnut shop and ate some doughnuts. They were very sweet and delicious. Then we went to a shopping mall, and we had lunch and shared. The shopping mall was so large. We returned to the study center and Laura taught us how to count American money and how to response.

I had trouble that day. I got home, took off my clothes and I washed them. My passfort was in there. I put clothes with my passport not only in the washing machine but also in the dryer, so my passport got clean but damaged and I was in such a panic.

For dinner, I made pork cutlet for my family. My host family said it was delicious, so I was very happy. While we were having dinner, we had a lot of conversation and it was a lot of fun.

We went to the fire department in the morning. We asked firefighters many questions, wore fire protection jackets and got on a fire truck. The American firefigters were wonderful people. Haruka and I got home early in the afternoon because we went to an Italian restaurant in Seattle with our host families. The restaurant was so gorgeous inside and the food was delicious too. Seattle was very urban, so the night view was wonderful.

After that, we went to various shops. There were lots of Christmas goods and they were very beautiful. The gelato shop looked so nice that we ate gelato, which was great. On the way home we were so tired that we slept in the van. We had a great time.

We went to the police station in the morning, asked questions, looked around the inside of the station, and got in a police car. The officers were so cool. After that, we went to see a judge at the law court nearby.

Samantha and I chose pizza topping and drove to the pizza store to pick up the pizza. Samantha kept singing and dancing while we were riding in the car. She was very funny, so I laughed a lot. After dinner, we played the card game “Apple & Apple” that Samantha likes. It was diffucult because it used a lot of English words, but my host family taught me in easy English, so I learned a lot. I loved the game.

In the morning, Laura taught us how to make English sentences. After that, we went to Green River College. The campus was a lot bigger than our college. I had a tofu dish cooked by Samantha for lunch. It was delicous and tasted Japanese. It seemed like Samantha's first dish, so I was very happy. Then we went to an elderly retirement home in the afternoon and we sang songs and talked with elderly people. After that, we went shopping too.

In the evening, Jonelle made delicious rice for us. We enjoyed conversation while eating dinner.

After we came back home, we played card games and play Station at Alissa's house. I felt it was so much fun and the time passed soon.

After that, Jason came and bowled with Haruka, Jason and me in a team. Laura was very good at bowling, and she taught us how to bowl. Jason was also good at bowling.

After I got home, I was tired, so I slept for about an hour. When I got up, eveyone was back home. We ate Teriyaki for dinner. It was so delicious. After that, I played games on the PlayStation with Samantha. She was very good, so I lost soon. Then, we saw a Marvel movie at Netfix.

We went to University of Washington in the morning. It had a bowling alley, a large convenience store and a library on campus. The library was huge like the cafeteria hall of “Harry Potter.” After that, we went to see the huge troll under a bridge. I was surprised to see that. Then, we ate hamburgers, went to the Amazon office, the first Starbucks store, Gum Walls, and famous Pike Place Market. I enjoyed the scenery we can't see in Japan.

We went back home and ate the ice cream while watching interesting TV. Then, I got a bracelet from Samantha, so I was happy. Yet I bacame sad because Jason had to go to work early next day, so I thanked him and he said to me, “Come here again.” I was so glad to hear that. I had a great day. It was the day I didn't want to think that the next day was the day to go back to Japan.

It was the day to return to Japan, so I got up earlier than eveyone and I got my things ready. Samantha had school, so I sent her off at the front of the house. I was too sad to thank her. Then I went to Alissa's house to pick up Haruka and headed to the study center in Jonelle's car. I had a lot of hugs with Jonelle and thanked her. Farewel was very sad, so everyone cried. I called Jason for a ferewell message on the phone. It was a very sad day. Three weeks passed quickly. I wanted to be together with my host family more. The Calland family took good care of me, and made me have very enjoyable three weeks.
