GRC

I studied at GRC for 6 months. There were many students from all over the world in GRC. GRC has two campuses. One is the main campus in Auburn, where the students in level 4 and 5 study. There are many facilities such as a library, a cafeteria and a gym in the main campus. The other is the Kent campus, where the students in level 1 to 3 study. I studied at the Kent campus. There are a movie theater or many stores near the Kent campus, so we can hang around with friends in the area.

Orientation

9/11-12 Orientation

We had the orientation at the Auburn campus. We learned about the college, and we made a student ID. I thought it was a good chance to learn about the college. We then took the placement test. We were later divided into 5 levels according to the total score of Listening, Grammar, Reading and Writing.

9/14-15 CORE

CORE is the camp where we can experience some activities such as horseback riding, boat, archery and so on. It's a good chance to make friends, so you should talk to others. We had a campfire at night. It was so fun.

9/17 Seattle Trip

We went sightseeing in Seattle by bus. There are many famous stores such as the First Starbucks Store and Pike Place Market. We went to Chinatown and Alki Beach too. The college students who attended us recommended some stores to us.

Classes

Level 2 InstructorLinda

Linda was a very kind teacher. It was easy for me to understand her teaching. My classmates and I often ate cookies and oranges after a test. Our class had little homework, so I studied by myself in the study hall. Linda taught me what I couldn't understand. Our class was in good relationship and fun.

Grammar

In the grammar class, we learned some grammar in junior high school level. The contents were not difficult, but it was difficult at first to catch what Linda was saying. She spoke English slowly, and when I couldn't understand her words, I asked her to repeat them.

Reading/Writing

In the reading class, we read short sentences or a book that was easy to read. In the writing class, we learned how to write a paragraph.

Listening/Speaking

In the listening class, we discussed the contents of listening passages, and played a game. I made a presentation with my classmate. At first, it was difficult to discuss with the classmates, so I thought I needed to talk more.

Level 3 InstructorAnnGrammar, Reading/Writing TimListening/Speaking

Ann was a funny teacher, who taught English with gestures and expressions using her whole body. Our class was always cheerful. We had a lot of homework every day, so I studied after class or before class. Ann taught me what I couldn't understand.

Tim liked dinosaurs, and he wore socks that were not matched between right and left. He explained patiently until we understood. We had a party on the last day of the quarter. I took many pictures with my friends.

Grammar

The contents were similar to those in level 2, but the vocabulary was more difficult, so I asked Tim a lot of questions.

Reading/Writing

In the reading class, we read a novel titled “Search for Safety,” and we took a test about it. We practiced to read long sentences too. In the writing class, we studied how to write essays. It was difficult to write one because it was longer than a paragraph.

Listening/Speaking

We asked questions about a picture and explained about it, and we also used cards to learn pronunciation. We watched a movie titled Modern Family,“ and we discussed it with the students in another class. We sang an English song every day.
